Just picture it: A little 5-year old girl stands in her front lawn selling lemonade a dollar a cup for a good cause. Happens everywhere, right? Yes, but THIS girl actually raised over $14,000 dollars this week. What’s so special about this? The house she stands in front of is rainbow colored.. and right across the street from Westboro Baptist Church. And she’s raising money for anti-bullying organizations in the local Topeka area. Westboro Baptist Church, you’ve met your match!
Who doesn’t know Westboro Baptist Church? A disgrace to all of Christianity (and human kind really), they tell all kinds of groups that they’re going to hell and God hates them, first and foremost homosexuals and soldiers. Or was it homosexual soldiers? Oh yeah, and Jews, too. They’re the ones that were protesting a soldier’s funeral right when and where it happened. Well, they hate everyone that isn’t as holy as they are, to sum up. (In case you’ve lived under a rock and have never heard of them.)
And somehow, when the TV crew interviewed the pastor of this so-called church, he managed to turn it around and basically stated that this is a preachable moment about sin and about “the eternal hatred and wrath of God towards the impenitent sinner” and this girl will have it coming, too. The reporter didn’t understand the connection between a lemonade stand and a preachable moment about sin. And the pastor says: “I don’t either. But that’s the way it’s fallen out.”
Uhm… ok then.
I applaud the 5-year old who we can all learn from. To the Westboro Baptist Church, and all other self-righteous Christians for that matter, I say this:
