If there is ONE thing Germans love, it’s soccer. I am not much of a sports fan, but when it comes to German teams in big soccer matches, I am all in! And for the first time in history, 2 German soccer teams played in the UEFA Champions League Finals, happening at the Wembley Stadium in London. If you don’t know: The best individual teams from around Europe (not the national teams) play each other. Sort of like a Europa Cup, but with city teams. Of course this was too good a game to watch from home. So I joined a few hundred other FC Bayern Muenchen and Borussia Dortmund fans at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim to watch a really good, really nerve-wrecking soccer match.
Because there were 2 German teams playing, everyone flocked to the Phoenix Club in Anaheim, because that’s where Germany is around here. What an awesome event! The ballroom, the Bierstube, and the Loreley restaurant were filled with enthusiastic soccer fans, of both teams. So no matter who scored, or almost scored, or successfully blocked, there were always cheering, clapping and jumping people who enjoyed their beer, brats and Leberkaes.
Well, the wrong team won. For me anyway. My family is all yellow (Dortmund), but as fate has it, the red (Bayern Muenchen) just has to win. Always. It’s like a curse. Oh well. At least Germany won! Go Germany!
